Eric Bachmann (1940–2019) wurde in Zürich geboren. 1956 beginnt er eine dreijährige Fotografenlehre beim Fotostudio Meiner, das vor allem die gehobene Klientel vom Zürichberg und die Zünfter mit stilvollen Porträts bediente. Während Bachmanns Lehrzeit gerät der Betrieb finanziell ins Schleudern. Der Stift verbleibt der einzige Angestellte, am Ende muss er seinen letzten Lehrlingslohn von 60 Franken mit einer Betreibungsdrohung einfordern.
Ab 1959 beteiligt sich Eric Bachmann am Aufbau der Fotoabteilung des Schweizer Fernsehens DRS, verlässt aber schon 1962 die feste Anstellung und betätigt sich als freier Fotograf.
Von 1963 bis 2001 unternimmt Bachmann Reportagereisen in alle fünf Konti- nente und Klimazonen. Er publiziert in Magazinen, Zeitungen und Büchern, bestreitet Ausstellungen über Shetland, Leningrad, die 68er-Jahre und den Gränicher Wald. Daneben arbeitet Eric Bachmann regelmässig im freien Auftragsverhältnis für das SF DRS.

Eric Bachmann (1940–2019) was born in Zurich. He began his photographic career in 1956 at the Meiner photo studio, where he completed a three-year apprenticeship. During this time, the Meiner photo studio – well-known for its stylish portraits of Zurich’s high-end society – began to experience financial trouble. Bachmann was one of the last employees to leave the studio and had a hard time getting his last salary payment of 60 Swiss francs.
From 1959 on, Bachmann played a role in setting up the photographic department of the Swiss National Television and Radio broadcaster, SF DRS. In 1962, he quit his role there to work as a freelance photographer.
From 1963 to 2001, Bachmann travelled around the world, visiting all five continents on countless photographic assignments. He published his work in numerous magazines, journals and books, and held exhibitions on subjects as varied as Shetland, Leningrad, the 1968 social movement and the Gränicher woods. During this time, Bachmann also regularly cooperated with the Swiss National Television and Radio broadcaster, SF DRS.

Durante questo periodo, Eric Bachmann continua a collaborare con la televisione SF DRS come freelance fino alla morte avvenuta nel 2019.
